Landmark Productions is thrilled to announce that its 2013 production of Howie the Rookie has won two Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards: Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Nidge in RTÉ’s Love/Hate and a previous award-winner for The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui at the Abbey Theatre) won Best Actor for his “tour-de-force” performance as both the Howie and the Rookie Lee; and Sinead McKenna won for Best Lighting Design.
The “stunning, riveting” production which received 5 stars from a number of leading publications was also nominated for Best Production in 2013. The awards mark the 10th time that the company – which has just celebrated its 10th anniversary – has won for its work.
Accepting his award, Tom Vaughan-Lawlor thanked the creative and production teams but paid particular gratitude to playwright Mark O’Rowe, and dedicated the award to his wife, the actress Claire Cox.
Speaking after the awards, founder of Landmark Productions Anne Clarke said: “I am thrilled that Tom’s astonishing performance and Sinead’s stunning lighting have been recognized, and look forward to their continued success as the play continues to tour.”
